We support babies, children and young people, together with their families and carers across North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire to optimise their nutritional intake and support healthy growth and development.
Our team is made up of Paediatric trained Dietitians and Dietetic Assistants. Our Dietitians are registered with Health and Care Professions Council. We also elect to be members of the British Dietetic Association.
Paediatric Dietitians are the experts in nutritional care of infants, children and adolescents. We are able to assess your child’s diet and medical history and work with you to decide on a plan to support your child’s individual nutrition needs.
Where we work
We see patients and families in a variety of settings including outpatient clinics, hospital wards and special schools. We work alongside families but also other health care professionals and hospital staff to support nutritional education to ensure that our care is child-centred and holistic.
We know that attending hospital outpatient appointments can sometimes be difficult for families with children with special needs. Our Paediatric Dietitians hold regular clinics at local special schools to reduce this stress for families and children and to ensure that our more vulnerable children are reviewed regularly.
Safeguarding
Our department endeavours to meet the needs of all children by working with safeguarding nurses, social services and other health care professionals.
Referrals
We accept referrals from GPs, paediatricians, health visitors, community nurses, school nurses and allied health professionals for a variety of nutritional issues, including;
- Food allergy and intolerance, including Cow’s Milk Allergy
- Faltering growth
- Pre-term infants
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Diabetes
- Gastrointestinal conditions such as coeliac disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
- Weight management
We also support patients who receive nutrition and fluid through feeding tubes.
