Our orthoptists work closely with our ophthalmologists and assess patients of all ages from babies to the elderly with eye problems such as squint, amblyopia (reduced vision), eye strain and double vision.

North Lincolnshire area
We hold a screening clinic at the Ironstone Centre which is located on West Street in Scunthorpe (DN15 6HQ) on a Tuesday morning and some Monday mornings.
North East Lincolnshire area:
- Pilgrim Primary Care Centre, Pelham Road, Immingham, DN40 1JW, on Wednesday mornings
- Scartho Medical Centre, Springfield Road, Grimsby, DN33 3JF, on Mondays and Fridays
- Weelsby View Health Centre, Ladysmith Road, Grimsby, DN32 9EF, on Friday mornings
- Cleethorpes Primary Care Centre, St Hugh’s Avenue, Cleethorpes, DN35 8EB, on Wednesday mornings
Referrals
Referrals to our orthoptic clinics are accepted from GPs and other medical professionals usually via the ophthalmology service as most patients will also need to be assessed by the ophthalmologist. Referrals are also accepted direct from schools in the North East Lincolnshire area via the school special educational needs co-ordinators for children with suspected visual stress. In these cases, coloured overlays may be advised by the orthoptist to relieve visual distortions and discomfort. Referrals are also accepted in the North East Lincolnshire area from school nurses for children failing the vision screening test in school. Referrals from paediatricians may be seen in the hospital or community clinics as appropriate.
