Your appointment
We now use digital appointment letters where you can confirm, cancel or rebook your appointment from your smartphone. If you would prefer to continue to receive a letter in the post, that’s fine too.
When you receive your appointment letter, check what type of appointment it is; ie a virtual one or a face to face one. If you the date and time are not suitable please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your slot to someone else- this helps us manage our waiting lists.
There are a number of ways you can do this; via your digital appointment letter, using our online form or you can call the relevant admin team below.
If you do fail to turn up for your appointment without letting us know in advance you will be classed as DNA (Did Not Attend) and will be referred back to your GP and the referral process will start again.

SMS reminders
We use SMS reminders for outpatient appointments.
Patients will get a text reminder seven days in advance of their appointment and again 48 hours before.
The first text will give you the option to confirm, cancel or rebook your appointment and the second will give further details about where to go if it’s face-to-face or the link to access your video consultation if it’s a virtual appointment.
Waiting times
We aim to see you as soon as possible but depending on how urgent your condition is, and how big the waiting list is in your speciality, you may have to wait a while for your appointment.
You can view our current waiting times for both new and follow-up outpatient appointments.
If your condition worsens before your appointment then you should see your GP who can arrange to bring it forward if the urgency of your referral has changed.
Preparing for your appointment
Please let us know if you or someone you care for has any special requirements such as sight, hearing or mobility needs. If you require the services of an interpreter we are able to provide this via a telephone service or face-to-face depending on your appointment needs. Guide dogs are welcome at the hospital
If you require access to a wheelchair, or require any assistance attending the clinic please ask a member of staff when you arrive.
